On the corner of Union and Hill in Pasadena, DogHaus has been serving up hotdogs, sausages and burgers since late 2010. They’re riding the wave of hot dog resurgence like Slaw Dogs on North Lake in Pasadena and Fab Hot Dogs out in Reseda.
Since their initial opening, the owners have done well enough to open a location closer to Old Town Pasadena and another one in Alhambra. Biking there for lunch just after the New Year, we found that fame and fortune haven’t spoiled a good thing.
Parking is wacky because Union is one-way, but it’s worth it. The menu has lots of specials, I tend to stick to the hot dogs, but they offer sausages and burgers too.
Plenty of condiments ( they claim 40 ) – but IMHO most of the dogs come ready to go, no retouching required.
The B.L.A.S.T. – on the menu on Opening Day, now a secret menu item.
You can even get a plain dog with ketchup if that’s what you want. Note that it still comes on a toasted Hawaiian roll bun.
There are those that go for the burgers – this one is The Hangover, topped with a fried egg and DogHaus chili.
The Sooo Cali is a popular item. Crispy onions and aioli, mmm. Tomato, arugula and avocado round it out.
But I like it spicy, and for me that means the Old Town Dog. Chipotle mayo and sauteed jalapenos. With tots. Yum.
